Shamwari Sarili

Very comfortable with massive bathrooms, underfloor heating etc but feels somewhat suburban – don’t expect a feeling of wild Africa. Next to Riverdene. Due for an upgrade in 2019.

Shamwari Riverdene Family

Mainly for families as it has kids facilities, grownups will also enjoy the rim flow pool and balconies with views. Next to Sarili. Getting an upgrade in 2018.

Shamwari Long Lee Manor

Restored historic farmhouse is elegant in an Edwardian, manicured-gardens way, with lovely views watching game over the plains. Due for an upgrade 2018/19.

Shamwari Lobengula

Dated ethnic décor under thatch; famous for Tiger Woods getting engaged here but he could have done better. In the hilly north of the reserve where game viewing isn’t best.

Shamwari Explorer

The pioneer of Eastern Cape safari now has a simple tented camp for 2-night walking trails, close to nature and lower rates.

Shamwari Eagles Crag

Shamwari’s flagship was built to be luxurious but the common areas feel rather hotel-like; it’s in a craggy ravine in the hilly north of the reserve.

Shamwari Bayethe Tented

A tented camp is unusual for this area, luxuriously appoimted and some have plunge pools. Shamwari does a gentle safari experience – tents may make it feel more real.
